?I believe in doing extensive screening before I hire anyone,? van Dyk said. ?I believe in ?hiring right? for the job, so that you don?t have a lot of employee turnover. You want people who want to be there because they?ll do a better job.?
Brozek said van Dyk?s observation has borne out through other franchise owners? experience.
?We?ve found that painters primarily want to paint,? he said. ?With our structure, they do just that, and they don?t have to worry about doing the paperwork or finding the next job. Our owners focus on that aspect of the job. Indeed, we?re set up so that our owners never pick up a paintbrush.?
That was good news for van Dyk.
?I don?t know one side of the brush from the other,? she said. ?When I interviewed painters, I wanted people who were skilled and knowledgeable, time savvy and budget conscience. My first hire demonstrated all those things. He has been painting for 10 years, has a very structured approach, and looks forward to growing with the company. He?s exactly the type of person I want working for me and for my clients. Success stems from integrity, accountability and responsibility.?
Brozek said supporting franchise owners? success is of paramount importance, and one of the ways the corporate office does that is through its client assistance programs. ?As an independent, I might not be able to provide it, and in Florida?s market, that can be essential,? she said. ?Realtors tell me that they can sell a home much faster if it?s been painted, and our terms make it much easier to do. Again, it?s all about service. There?s no need to exceed client?s expectations. You just have to do the job and, like the Fresh Coat logo says, do it right. That?s my goal. I want my clients to be so happy with the job that they tell all their mates.?
